The juxtaposition of the contradictory traits we carry within and how, unconsciously or even consciously, we move forward with them is something to marvel upon; or so I feel. The traits being

1. Of sheer courage and

2. Of painful, almost tiring fear.

They exist as complete wholes that blend into each other to give us an outcome for our efforts.

And the only difference between someone you admire and yourself is the simple calculation, the simple pattern of letting courage take that one step forward every time. The times you have failed somewhere is not because the universe didn’t acknowledge your efforts, it’s because you put in your effort thinking of the consequences of failure. The ‘If I can’t make it now, it will be a disaster” thought.

Your efforts, your intellect alone are not bringing you your success. An example would be running a race as a child and running a race now. Your age indeed gives you better ways to strategize, understand your opponents, and combat your fear but you’ll realize how, when running as a child, you were much confident and that would have possibly geared you up for a win.

Efforts could be better with age then why aren’t the outcomes following an upward trajectory for you as an adult than as a child?

This is why I talk about contrasts. That the complexities of your mind and emotions, instead of helping you, might often put you in tough situations mentally. The simple answer to this is as you grow up, with situational exposure you learn that you can’t always win, your opponents could be better, your failure will be disappointing, the society is prone to make judgements of you, etc. You impair your efforts with these ideas. This then affects the outcome. It isn’t the lack of efforts it’s the idea of putting your efforts into the ‘fear’ black hole.

The sense of alienation you feel as a child. Away from detailed fears is something we wish we could go back to. It’s inevitable to be worried. But the worries shouldn’t force you to doubt yourself and ultimately give up even before you start.

The ones you admire aren’t running a race; they are merely climbing past that fear. Their efforts aren’t better than you. Their mental state is. And that is not unachievable. Don’t willfully blind your thoughts by saying that someone else could do it because they are smarter, stronger, etc.

This is not a motivational speech. This is a reality check. You won’t succeed with constant doubts jumping like monkeys through your veins. Doubtless, fearless karma is the way to go.
