Me, my people and our real stories and thoughts on love

Yesterday I binge-watched Modern Love and it reminded me of an emotion so pure yet selfish but again somehow is selfless. Doesn't make sense? Well that is love y'all, never made sense but it is just there, residing within us, for all of us.

Here are some simple real life stories and ideas on love, its power and its struggles that I admire and keep me hopeful

1. I remember my best friend telling me how hard she finds it to tell people that she loves them. She says it's used way too often and has lost its spark. "Oh I loveeee hanging out with you", "Oh man you are amazing, I love you!" saying that to someone you just had a cup of coffee with? Maybe that's not love. That sure is a feeling, but love? I don't think so. She would often say.

So this same insane bestie of mine, falls in love, reminds me that she does love me too, is not leaving me alone, has now openly started saying she loves her boyfriend too, but it took her time to confess that. She doesn't say the word "love" anywhere or to anyone else that often. But now that she really truly knows how it feels, she says it, fearlessly and with a smile on her face. The fact that she considers saying 'I love you' so special, maybe does make it even more special for all of us who are in her group of loved ones, doesn't it?

2. This other friend of mine. So in love with her soulmate that they already have decided that if they are to get married one day, it has to be with each other. But that doesn't take away the fact that they have had problems, fights and quite a few misunderstandings over these months. I remember asking her once a question that almost made her think about her relationship all over again. "How many times this whole time have you thought about breaking up with him?"

Her silence was enough to make my point. Was it healthy? She doesn't know. The same person later confronted me saying how she believes in the future they have together. She believes in their love and the mutual respect they have for one another. "He makes me a better self and maybe right now I am not in the best place, but I know this will work, I know this is it Sharanya and that's what gives me hope!"

3. Back at my native place was when my uncle told me this story which probably many of you might have heard, I remember sitting on the swing and gazing at the night sky that somehow seemed to be shy and hid itself behind those tall lush trees. The Gift of the Magi is a short story that revolves around a young poor couple, so in love, eagerly awaiting Christmas so they could give each other presents. The girl had thick beautiful hair and the guy decided to sell his watch which had no strap on and buy her a beautiful comb that could slide all too well through her pretty hair. Soon snow took over and bells were inviting them to welcome the magical end of yet another year.

The gift the guy received from her was a watch strap. She cut and sold her hair to get him a strap for a watch that he now had exchanged for a comb. She now has a comb but no long hair to comb while he has a shiny, black strap but no dial to use it on. Though they both have gifts that are of no use to them, they soon realized how they were ready to make any sort of sacrifices when it comes to showing how much they love each other.

This story is way too sweet man it will forever stay with me(cries in a corner), I cannot think of a kind of love that can go above and beyond and is so selfless and pure, feels so pure as though my mere touch might taint it! There is so much strength in there that I'll never realize.

(Okay maybe this is not a real story but I heard it from a real person okay.)

4.I remember my mum explaining why she believes in this emotion. She reminded me that it is this power that love carries within that she admires. "Though it has hardships and struggles and people afar might think that it's rather better to stay alone than fall for someone and get through all this trouble, I would disagree", she would say.

Personally, I believe it requires courage to love someone, accept someone as they are and to make them a better version of themselves. It requires huge amount of sensitivity to believe in each other, trust someone and care for them like you have never done before. It requires patience to be with them and motivate them to pursue what they have wanted too.

To love their flaws

To love their happiness

To love that they look for your eyes in a crowd

To love is a need not a want

That is what makes it selfless

It heals, cures and brings you back to life

Even though you have been living all this while, this power makes you alive in it's true sense

That is a love that we all need for our own survival

That is the love that is beyond all our right senses, it's wild, crazy and oh so happy!

It's not even February yet and here I am getting all sappy! Should go watch Breaking Bad now to get back in track like dayum!

Never stop loving though and sure you will have to deal with heartbreaks and not the best people for love might come your way but trust me, it will all be worth it when you meet your very own flawed, imperfect, best one! ;)
